Global Issues We Need to Solve to Close the Gap

Economic

The current global economic situation is affecting gender equality outcomes. Although there are some positive signs in the short term, long-term growth predictions are at their lowest in 30 years, which poses challenges for the economic prospects of women and girls. While more regions are adopting policies to promote gender equality, there are significant differences in how these policies are funded and put into action.

Political

As of June 1, 2024, there are 27 countries with 28 women in leadership roles as Heads of State or Government. At this rate, it will take another 130 years to achieve gender equality in these top positions. Women need to be equally involved in politics and public life to help reach the Sustainable Development Goals by 2030. Unfortunately, data shows that women are still not well represented in decision-making roles around the world, making true gender equality in politics a long way off.

Pay Equity

In 2024, 56% percent of economies have laws that mandate equal pay. Only 20% of that number have mechanisms in place to enforce it.

Leadership

"Women represent 42% of the global workforce, but only 31.7% of senior leadership." In 2024, only 36.4% of women were hired into leadership positions, down for a second year in a row. We can do better.
